Some ways to protect ourselves from COVID-19

It was at the beginning of the year 2020 that the pandemic caused by the COVID-19 virus began, since then the lifestyle of all of us changed, we had to stay locked up in our homes to prevent the spread of this disease that has taken so much from us and To date, approximately 3,773,733 cases have been reported in Peru, of which it has been confirmed that 213,870 cases have ended in the death of those infected.

However, that desire cannot blind us and we must be aware that the pandemic is not over yet, so we cannot trust ourselves, we have to stay alert and take the correct measures to counteract the spread of the virus.

According to the WHO (World Health Organization) and PAHO (Pan American Health Organization) in South America, cases of COVID-19 have increased for the fourth consecutive week; with a total of 650,453 new cases during the week of July 13-19, 2022, that means the number of cases has increased by 11% from the previous week (July 7-12, 2022).

During this week, 08 out of 10 countries in South America reported an increase in COVID cases, within which Peru is among the countries with the highest percentage of relative increase compared to the previous week with 67,194 (104.3 % increase) new cases, in fact, it is the country with the highest increase in cases, followed by Ecuador and Argentina, which reported 11,636 (59.5%) and 39,656 (24.5%) cases, respectively.
During the same period, 2,440 COVID deaths were reported in total, indicating an increase of 8.8% in deaths compared to the previous week, as well as weekly cases, 08 out of 10 countries indicated an increase in deaths. weekly deaths, while two indicated a decrease, one of those two countries was Peru with 117 deaths (7.1% decrease), accompanied by Uruguay with 14 deaths, (36.4% decrease), all this compared to the previous week.
In South America there are five countries with available data for weekly hospitalizations for COVID, of which four reported an increase in hospitalizations for COVID, while one, Chile, indicated that it had a decrease of 8% compared to the previous week. Speaking of ICU admissions, four out of seven countries reported an increase and two indicated a decrease. An increase in severity trends was shown in this last week in Peru, this increase has been sustained in ICU admissions and hospitalizations during the last 3 and 8 consecutive weeks respectively, with an increase of 88.5% and 9.3 % reported during this week compared to the previous week.

Cases in Peru have increased since the end of April this year, with the highest cases recorded since February 2022, as there was an increase of 104.3% during this week compared to last week.

COVID infections are beginning to rise once again, so the government is thinking of resuming some social distancing measures, something that the Peruvian population is not going to take in the best way.
